Innocent Words Gone Bad (Wednesday, July 14, 2010 / 7:43 PM)
Have you ever used a vulgarity and don't know the particular reason why you have used it? Is it through ultimate anger? Or just a plain bad habit? Do you know of its true meaning instead of regarding it as an unacceptable word of the century?
P.S. I am going to use a lot of vulgarities in this post. So, if you feel uncomfortable, please do not read on. Thanks.
I have this one experience before. I was like only an innocent five year old kid studying in kindergarten. While on the way back from school, my Dad used the F-word, FUCK, unintentionally, out of anger, to scold a reckless driver that suddenly swerved in front of our car. Being a juvenile, I did not know that was a bad word and guess what? Usually, kids follow what their parents say or do, right? I scolded FUCK in front of my friend very loudly in class to vent off my anger. Ironically when the day comes to Parents'-Teachers' Meet Day, my teacher sort of told my mother that I have used the F-word at the right situation. She said that I used it to scold my friends when someone made me annoyed and upset. LOL! I was so smart the last time! My mother gave my father a very serious scolding after that meet because she was so embarrassed due to my tender age of using the common vulgarity in SCHOOL!
If you check the definition of FUCK, it means sex. I know. Everyone should know. Then, why the heck is FUCK a bad word or a taboo? It doesn't make sense at all!
Especially the word BITCH. BITCH means a female dog. Can you imagine your kid asking you this? "Mom/Dad, what is the other word for a female dog?" You don't expect to answer this right? "Oh, there's no other word for a female dog. It's just the same." Like come on, what the Hell? This is so lame. What's so wrong with the word BITCH? Why do people want to use it to refer to a lewd woman?
Sometimes, normal words can go wrong. And that all thanks to the public, whom have made a good word into an offensive one.
I do hope that no other words such as duck and fish become a vulgarity in a few years to come. Who knows? Maybe the most simplest word like apple can be used to scold people and being censored when it is told on TV shows or songs.
