Student Councilor Leadership Training Camp 2010 (Monday, June 28, 2010 / 12:58 AM)
I went for this camp in school for three days and two nights for this Student Councilor Training and sort of a bonding session with the seniors, the Sec Threes and Fours. We played many games together in groups and also attended many talks and just HAD FUN! Here are the activities that we did during the three days camp.
22nd June 2010 (Tuesday)
8.30-9.15a.m. : Reporting/Registration [I was in Group 10- Marco Polo! Lim Ying, Molly,
Marilyn, Xin Ying, Yan Ting (our very own Drama leader!) Ting Hui (assistant
leader), Jordan (leader) and Wee Han.]
Taking individual photos
Handing over of valuables (cellphones and wallets) to the Leaders/Assistant Leaders
9.15-10.10a.m. : Ice Breakers (the games were mostly like the ones we played during Drama.
Like come on, Yan Ting and Dayna were the ones who were in charge of the Ice
Breaker activities! LOL! During that period, my teammates and I were still shy
and unsociable. We barely talked so we got had a low score.)
10.10-10.45a.m. : Camp Briefing (talking about our schedule for the camp and what we will be doing)
10.45-11.20a.m. : Talk by Mdm Chua: What makes a Leader? (basically talking about
leadership and the intentions of being a leader)
11.20a.m.-12.45p.m. : Lunch! (we had to do the Hungry Cheer again, like the one we did in
BreakThru Camp, and also prayers before we get to eat. Chicken rice was our first meal of the camp!)
12.45-3p.m. : Envisioning Exercise (we did group work and had to do presentations in front of everyone regarding the topic on 'leadership of a student councilor'.)
3-4.05p.m. : Energizer Games (we played some games like "Dog & Bone' and 'Ninja. Most of the games remind me of the ones we played during Drama.)
4.05-6.45p.m. : Talk on Events Planning with Mr Terence Kam (Mr Terence Kam is a well-known event planner that basically came to teach us on event planning which is one of the key aspects of being a student councilor.)
6.45-7.20p.m. : Dinner! (Hungry Cheer. Prayers. DUCK RICE!)
7.20-8.15p.m. : Group Time and Shower (my group and I discussed about our group cheer during Group Time. Lim Ying, Molly and many others including me were late for the next activity because of the shower schedule. There were so many girls taking their time to shower! We had to wait for so long and moreover, there were so little shower cubicles around for so many girls! Therefore, I had to rush and ended up only finish showering within 10 minutes, breaking my record. ROFL!)
8.15-11.10p.m. : Treasure Hunting and Debrief (the Treasure Hunt was absolutely ANTICIPATING and FABULOUS though all of us were tired and sweaty after the activity. Furthermore, we cannot shower after the activity although we were sweating like running water gushing from our bodies! That means we had to sleep with the odour of perspiration. I know that sounds gross but our sweat immediately evaporated after we stayed in the air-conned Wesley Hall for half an hour. Basically, each group will be given a clue at the beginning and we had to solve it. After solving each clue, we had to go back to the Wesley Hall to get the next clue. The game is not as easy as you may think. We had to guess the exact place of the school where the clue could be found through photographs which were difficult to decipher but we managed to find all the clues unfortunately being the last group for the game. There were a total of five clues. The school was SUPER DARK, the only places that have lights were the corridors, Wesley Hall and canteen. Or else the rest of the place was in darkness. We had to practically use our senses to find the clues at some places as it was so dark that our eyes can't see! I LOVE THIS ACTIVITY THE MOST FOR THE CAMP! We had learnt to work closer together and teamwork. After the game, we had to vote for the most liked new P.E. T-shirt for next year and Mdm Chua told us about the suitable attire we wear the next day and also the time we should be ready which was 6.30a.m.! And we slept at about 12a.m. + that night because of late supper!)
11.10-11.50p.m. : Supper! (EXTREMELY HOT Milo with crackers of three different flavours you desire: peanut butter, grapes and cheese.) and Wash-Up
12a.m. : LIGHTS OUT! (Can barely sleep! The floor was too hard. Slept in Joy3-1's classroom. It was surprisingly very clean.)
23rd June 2010 (Wednesday)
6-6.30a.m. : WAKE UP CALL and Wash Up ( I was so sleepy. I did not have enough sleep at all that day.)
6.30-7a.m. : Morning Exercise (the P.E. Captains lead us in this.)
7-7.45am. : BREAKFAST! (fried noodles with cabbage & black fungus and fried fish cakes.)
7.45-8.30a.m. : Group Time (cheer Practice with my group in the hall.)
8.30-10.30a.m. : Group Challenge: Hosting a Tour around the School (Xin Ying and I are the tour guides for our group. We had planned orderly with Jordan and Wee Han helping us on what to say about each venue. I thought we had done great although our annoying 'guests' kept on asking unrealistic questions about the venue like 'How big is the quadrangle?'. I was like saying 'What the Heck' in my head. 'Cause we can't say it out loud for we had to be polite and patient to our 'guests' no matter how they treat us.)
10.30a.m.-12.45p.m. : Talk on Events Planning with Mr Terence Kam (part two of the talk. He taught us to plan a special activity for the student investiture which will be on the 26th of July, Monday.)
12.45-1.30p.m. : LUNCH! (Rice with... Oops. I have forgotten. Tehee.)
1.30-3.30p.m. : Talk on different arms of Student Councilors (CCA leaders: Mrs Chng [in Wesley Hall], Discipline: Mr Gage [in Multi-Purpose Room], Mentors: Mr Joseph Lim [no idea of where they had their meeting.], P.E. Captains: Ms Rachel Cheng [Wesley Hall] and Welfare: Ms Emily Tan [no clue too]. I chose discipline as my criteria and so did Joreen and Esther. There were only a total of five Sec Twos that had joined the discipline council and so many that joined as P.E. Captains! LMAO! Nonetheless, Mr Gage welcomed and taught us on the discipline of the school. Asking us to think of a mission and vision for the discipline council. He also told us to email him once every fortnight to tell him about our leaders of the council on how they fare. I always thought Mr Gage is a strict teacher. Well, HE IS but he can be kinda funny sometimes.)
3.30-6.30p.m. : Team Building Games (one of the games involved us melting a huge ice slab without breaking it. We could only use our body heat to do so. Played some games that involves blind-folding which means each team member must be extremely cooperative to win the game. The games are like being blind-folded and we had to find the coloured bean bags on the floor using our hearing skills. And the other is when every team member is separated and blind-folded but we had to be in a straight line as soon as we can by reuniting together through shouts. We also played a disgusting game that involves us using our legs to pass around rotten bananas, balls, eggs and shoes. The rotten banana was the worst! It was so squashy that my legs were so unwilling to hold onto the banana for long. We had to pass around the items as many as we can without falling out onto the floor. We also played another game where it is something like a tug-of-war. Marilyn and I were the ones being pulled and released, we were being harnessed, by our teammates to collect the ping pong balls from the bucket filled with water without our feet crossing the given line. Although we were dead tired after the games, we had a great time and guess what? Our group won third in this challenge! YAY! Thanks to all the seniors who had organised the games for the camp!)
6.30-7.25p.m. : Shower and Reflections [Group Time] (I showered using two buckets and a scoop in the toilet cubicle this time as it saves time and it is a whole lot easier! Except we had to constantly scoop water from the buckets instead of turning on the shower. We had some reflections of our day after that and also how each member had fared during the camp so far.)
7.25-8p.m. : Dinner! (Macaroni with chicken and cauliflower! YUMMY! Best food of camp!) and Prize Presentation (Marco Polo was forth overall!)
8-11.30p.m. : Discussion on the Student Investiture Programme on the 26th of July (we were supposed to be watching a movie but sadly we had to plan for the investiture to make the day a memorable one that we, as student councilors, could remember. Joreen, Rui Lin, Aqilah, Jenna, Faith, Yan Ting, several others and I are in the programme line-up/entertainment committee. We are the ones who have to plan for the investiture to be rockin' cool! The other committees are: Publicity/External Affairs, refreshments, decorations, logistics and crowd control.)
11.30p.m.-12.05a.m. : Supper and Wash-Up
12.45a.m. : LIGHTS OUT!
24th June 2010 (Thursday)
6-6.50a.m. : WAKE UP CALL and Wash Up
7-8.15a.m. : Morning Exercise (we did the Singapore Youth Olympics Cheer dance moves. It was awkward and funny. Seriously. Especially how our seniors taught us so enthusiastically.)
8.15-9a.m. : Breakfast! (hot dog with scrambled eggs and hash brown with MILO!)
9-9.40a.m. : Devotions (Mr Kelvin Tay told us devotions regarding leadership.)
9.40-10.10a.m. : Area Cleaning (had to rearrange the tables in Joy3-1 and sweep the floor.)
10.10-11a.m. : Final Debrief and Principal's Talk
THE CAMP IS SO APPEALING AND USEFUL! IT IS AN AHMAZING EXPERIENCE!
