Thanksgiving Carnival and ARTS Nite (Sunday, April 11, 2010 / 8:50 AM)

Whoa! It was a tiring and stressful day yet it was super entertaining! I have never felt so good on stage before! Hahaa. Now, I love being on stage. It just gives me a whole new feeling like, 'Hey Rachel... You have the whole stage of your own with your friends. You gotta do it perfectly! Make the audience gape with awe. Make yourself slightly famous? LOL.' OK, enough of those, I will now tell you about yesterday's programs that I did at the venue, which was at an empty field near the HDB blocks.

First, all the Sec Twos assembled in the school hall for a briefing about the food and game stalls that we were about to set up for the public to raise funds to the needy. It rained pretty heavy yesterday morning, we thought that it was such a bad day but the rain cooled down the humid and hot weather! If there was no rain yesterday, I bet not many people will come as the big tent where we had our carnival was very stuffy and not well ventilated. I think people will sweat to death if not for the rain!

Deborah, Esther, Li Tong, Rasinah, Sirih and I tend to the Environmental Stall which was a game stall that consists of two different games regarding the environment, one about the bottle game (you need to use an artificial gun with the rubber band, which treats it like a catapult, to shoot the toxic gas bottles. you must not shoot the Earth and ozone layer bottles or else it's game over. it's not as easy as you think. even my Dad tried it and he never win anything.) and another about the wire game (you need to use another wire equipment and go through the wire lines without ever touching it from a bottle to another bottle which is the Earth and the other, which I have forgotten! once the wire equipment touches it, a buzzer will sound and you have two more tries to redo.)

We had a fight while setting up our stall. We were like complaining why our tables given were so uneven and that Rui Lin's English was so bad that we can't even understand what she has written on the rules of the game on the cardboard. Her Grammar mistakes were wrong! Even her spelling too! Since it was written on cardboard, I wanted to change it but Sirih said 'No'. I was very irritated as to how this turned out to be. Like come on. Do you want the public to look down on us due to 'our' poor English which was all Rui Lin's fault? NO WAY! They will think bad of our school. The food prizes that Sirih provided were also not Halal which Rasinah and I were very annoyed about. Like Hello... We are in Singapore, it is a multi-racial country. Do you want to start a racial riot by giving out non-Halal food to the Malays by offending them? All of us were quarreling. Fortunately, we cooled down and were back to good terms again when the carnival officially started.

Kathy and Kylie met up with Rasinah and I before the carnival to go and change into our costumes at McDonalds. Then, we started advertising our stall by giving out pamphlets to the passers-by. At first, no one visited our stall but only the teachers. Mr Andrew Kang was our first customer. Hehee. There were many teachers that came to our stall and that included Mdm Ni, Mdm Sng and manymore which I don't know their names. Soon, many other kids came to play. Even the adults!

While we were serving our customers, we could also watch the other performances as our stall was the nearest to the stage. In between, my friends and I took turns to go and explore the other food and games stall. I bought some items for myself like a luminous 'limited edition' flower shaped bowl and three toys (one for Katelyn, one for Ashley, one for Zoe). I bought some food and drinks too.

Rasinah and I went to find Kathy and Kylie at about 12p.m. to apply make-up. By then, Rasinah's Mom and maid were there. Her mother was very friendly. She helped some of us on our make-up. The weather was getting warmer so I was already sweating after the make-up was done up. Phew!

Then came Kylie and my parents. They visited our stall to support us in playing the games. My Dad played the 'gun game' while Kylie's Dad played the 'wire game'. My Dad took loads of pictures of my friends and I. After everything was done up, we went to rehearsed inside another smaller tent and saw that Ryan there. UGH. Hate him!

Before everything started, some of the other boys which were dancing to Sorry Sorry by Super Junior wished us good luck before they went up on stage. I was getting very nervous as I knew that our time will arrive very soon. After their dance, some other Malay people, who are known to be very close friends, sang This is Me by Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas, Use Somebody by Kings of Leon and Numb by Linkin Park. Ryan's dance named 'Case Study' was up next. Rasinah and I were like "What the Hell is his dance's name case study? Is it named after a section in our Geography textbook? HAHAHA!"

His dance was more like hip-hop. Sorry Sorry was better and ours more feminine? OK. I am not very sure how to describe our dance moves but ours very well-coordinated with a tinge of fun. I guess?

After another Chinese guy sang a song before us, it was our TURN ON STAGE! ZOMG! Actually, I was kinda eager and anxious at the same time. I bet my friends are too except Rasinah. Rasinah is always excited when it comes to dancing. ROFL.

I guess we performed well but we had some minor mishaps. First, Rasinah and I created a BOOMZ effect. How on Earth did we do that? While we were dancing to a part, Rasinah and my bangle 'clash' together, or should I say bang together. And what was the effect? Let's just say that the impact was so great that even my bangle was dented and the pieces have been broken. At first, I didn't know that the sound was from our bangles. It sounded more like 'SHINGZ' instead of 'BOOMZ'. LOL. The BOOMZ sound was due to the impact.

Then, according to Rasinah and Kathy, they said that their shoes slipped off during a part of the dance. Rasinah said that one of her shoes slipped off while she was dancing. Since it was so difficult to dance by only wearing a shoe, she kicked off the other shoe and continued dancing. Kathy was near to where Rasinah was. She go the wrong idea and thought that she was supposed to follow her. So... Ya, you guessed it. She kicked off her shoes too. At the end of the dance I was like 'LOL and what the Hell!' at the same time. Kylie was laughing too. Overall, I think our dance was awesome and quite hilarious. I wish we can have more of this events soon so that the four of us, Scream Queens, will rock the house down with our CO_OL dance moves!

After that, we rested a while to cool ourselves from the hot weather and went walking around the compound to look at the stalls. We took turns in fanning each other with cardboards.

It was already time for us to go back to school to get ready for our Drama performance for the ARTS NITE so Ronnie searched for all the Drama members. We went back to change before having some warm-up exercises which were pretty serious but some parts were funny especially the part when all of us had to follow Iman's, our leader's, instruction of following our part in the play like if you are a black gang, you should act like one. If you are a blue guard or a merchant, you should act like one. But what if you are not in any of the roles? Well, you just simply act your own character! It was weird as I was walking like a black gang and all of a sudden
Ronnie was like in front of me, he clearly wanted to kill me as he was a blue guard and the two of us were 'enemies' in the play. I tried to avoid him but he opened his eyes widely and stared at me. The other blue guard that tried to 'kill' me was Ellson. His actions was really very random as he just walked beside me and grabbed my neck quite tightly, clearly, trying to 'kill' me. Then, I bumped with Li Tong, Deborah and Kylie on the way and I stick with them. Every time Iman said 'Stop!', we stopped and posed on a fighting scene. It was simply funny and I can't stop laughing in my mind! The poses that we made were ridiculous and fake! LOL. Finally, Wei Kang said we can laughed all we can. Of course, everyone laughed so much that the room was suddenly changed from solemnness to happiness. We were asked to be serious after a while and we had our dinner before walking towards the venue.

All the while after the dance, Kathy and I were acting that our Dad was Adam Lambert while our Mom was Lady Gaga. We imagined that our school was our house and that Li Tong, a.k.a. 'Lily Allen', was our cousin. We acted that the play, The Immigrant, was a show in Hollywood and we starred in it. We imagined that the play was Sunlight, replacement to Twilight instead. Since the two of us were the black gangs, we imagined ourselves being the Volturi. Hahaha. I know... This sounds extremely wacky but we had a fun time acting. After the show when we went to Orchard Road together taking a MRT, we imagines that it was a plane and we were on our way to Times Square in New York for some shopping!

We waited patiently in a tent which was hidden from the audience. The play was OK, everything was fine. Then, everything went on normally without any evident flaws. The black gang fought with the blue guards effectively and orderly. Everyone remembered their lines and nobody had a nervous breakdown, which was a very good thing. A lot of people was awestruck when the merchant, Wong, acted by Kah Heng, was 'killed' by Tang, a bad guy, acted by Keng Hao.

At the end of the play, we were applauded and all of us were led to another pathway way from the audience. Ms Jean saw us and said that we had done a good job. We walked back to school and were so glad that the play was over but we didn't know that we would receive a very long and emotional lecture by Mdm Chua.

She said that the Sec Twos and Threes were very badly behaved although our seniors thought we were OK before the performance. She told us that the Sec Fours and Fives will leave us soon as they will be sitting for their 'N' or 'O' levels. Once they are one, it's just us with the new batch of Sec Ones. She said that we need to prove that we are able to be responsible and that we can pass the baton to achieve a Gold with Honours for SYF Drama next year. And so on and on the speech goes. It gets more and more saddening. Many people were left with silent tears or sober. I am really very sad that next Wednesday will be the last day that the seniors will be with us. There will be no fun anymore without them! So depressing...

Kathy and Li Tong went to the toilet to change their clothes after that while I changed my shoes and wore my hair band so that I don't look plain in my black clothes and pants. LOL. I looked as though I just had my yoga lesson or something but just the funkier type. We walked to the MRT station and went to 313 Orchard to buy some CDs. Actually I didn't intend to buy anything but I saw the Chinese CD that I have been looking for a long time and I just can't resist. Therefore, I bought it in the end and I didn't regret buying! The tracks are awesome. The band is Magic Power. I didn't know they even sung a song that has the F*** word in it and they sang it so casually. OMGee... Li Tomg bought herself a Big Bang, Korean band, CD.

After buying the CDs, I departed from them as I need to meet my parents and Dad's boss and his family at Crystal Jade in Takashimaya. They still continued to shop around the area while I was striding from 313 Orchard to Takashimaya on foot!

I had a fun time talking with my Dad's boss' daughter, Stephanie, as we had a lot in common. WE LOVE BOOKS! Hahaa.

I finally bought Shakespeare's Tempest while Stephanie bought four books in total! WOW. She said that the prices here are cheaper as compared to those in Germany. F.Y.I., she and her family are from Germany.

Finally, everything has ended and the day was OVER! Sigh... It was an enjoyable day with loads of different emotions.
